What is 3MT?
Inspired by the traditional “three minute thesis” competition, the "Three Minute Trainee" competition challenges KITE trainees including graduate students, post-docs, and staff, to communicate the key concepts of their research in a compelling three minute presentation. A panel of judges evaluates each of the presentations and decides the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards, while the audience will vote for a People's Choice Award. This is a great chance to hone your presentation skills and to come up with a short pitch about your work that can be used at conferences, for interviews, networking events, and grant proposal writing.
Who can compete at the KITE 3MT?
KITE trainees and research staff (who are not Scientists, Senior Scientists, or Staff Scientists) can submit their abstracts (300 words or less) to be considered for this competition. The review committee will select the top 15 abstracts to present at the live-streamed conference, while another 15 presentations will be featured on Toronto Rehab's social media channels and have a chance to win a prize in the Twitter challenge on the day of the event.
The deadline to submit a 300-word abstract to be considered for the live-streamed and Twitter challenge is July 6th. Please note that there is a limit of 1 abstract submission as a first author for each person.
Trainee Network Session
Besides the 3MT competition, the Trainee Network Session is a structured speed mentorship event that provides trainees with the opportunity to meet and network with KITE@UHN scientists, topic experts, and alumni. In small groups, trainees will have a 20-minute conversation with a mentor about one of the following themes: (1) Academic Leadership Qualities, (2) Establishing a Strong Network in the Virtual World, (3) Job Opportunities in Academia vs. Industry. They will then move onto another theme, giving them the unique opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities related to their academic life, research and career development. This session will be hosted by the KITE Trainee Executive Committee at 4:00 PM, August 6th 2020.
