KITE 3MT Competition

Who can compete at the KITE 3MT 2021?

KITE trainees and research staff (who are not Scientists, Senior Scientists, or Staff Scientists) can submit their abstracts (300 words or less) to be considered for this competition.

The deadline to submit a 300-word abstract to be considered for the live-streamed and Twitter challenge is Friday, May 21st, 2021. Please note that there is a limit of 1 abstract submission as a first author for each person.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

The body of your abstract text must be limited to 300 words (Background to Conclusion), and must include the following sections:

  1. Title
  2. Authors and affiliations
  3. Background: Importance of the problem or topic
  4. Aims: Objectives of the studies
  5. Methods: The approach/designs used
  6. Results: What was discovered
  7. Conclusion/Impact: Consequences, significance, implications
  8. References: Up to 3

You may submit your abstracts under one of the following themes:

  1. Prevention
  2. Restoration of Function
  3. Quality of Life/Aging Well

The review committee will select the top 15 abstracts to present at the live-streamed conference, while another 20 presentations will be featured on the KITE Trainee Executive Committee's (KITEC) social media channels and have a chance to win a prize in the Twitter challenge on the day of the event.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded, as well as a People’s Choice Award and a Twitter Challenge Award.

Live-streamed Competition, Presentation Guidelines:

  1. One slide
  2. The slide must be static. No animation, gif, and transition are allowed.

Twitter Challenge Competition, Presentation Guidelines:

  1. 2-minute video with up to 3 slides
  2. MP4 format (you can use Zoom to record your video file)
  3. Your first slide must be the title of your presentation, and the last slide must contain a link(s) to additional resources.
  4. Once you prepared your Twitter presentation, you must submit that to the KITE 3MT organizing committee.
  5. Your Twitter presentations will be posted on Twitter by @KITETrainees on June 23rd, 2021 at 1:00 PM.

Trainee Network Session

Besides the 3MT competition, the Trainee Network Session is a structured speed mentorship event that provides you with the opportunity to meet and network with KITE@UHN scientists, topic experts, and alumni. This session will be hosted by the KITE Trainee Executive Committee from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, June 24, 2021.

Timeline

  1. April 21: Accepting 300-word abstract submissions (from KITE trainees and research staff)
  2. May 21: Abstract submission and registration deadlines for presenters
  3. May 21-June 10: Abstract review process
  4. June 14: Presentation preparation and information session workshop
  5. June 17: Registration deadline for Trainee Networking session
  6. June 23: Registration deadline for non-presenters & Twitter presentations will be posted by @KITETrainees at 1:00 PM
  7. June 23-June 24: Twitter challenge (will be closed at 1:00 PM on June 24)
