Expanding our understanding of post COVID-19 condition web series: Rehabilitation Care
As of 3 September 2021, over 218 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 4.5 million deaths have been reported to WHO. The estimate of total persons affected with sequelae after experiencing COVID-19 remains unknown, but published reports identify that about 10% or more COVID-19 patients experience persistent symptoms for weeks/months after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Following two successful WHO webinars on Recognition and on Research of Post COVID-19 condition on February 9 and June 15 2021, on October 6, WHO will conduct a third webinar in this series on Rehabilitation Care.
All post-acute COVID-19 follow-up studies that incorporated assessments of functioning and quality of life universally reported significant deficits in several clinical domains. Limitations in functioning and poor quality of life were reported in both hospitalized and non-hospitalized adults and children recovering from COVID-19. People experiencing severe limitations in functioning or a protracted course of Post COVID-19 Condition most likely require person-centred, comprehensive and multidisciplinary rehabilitation delivered in collaboration with several medical specialties and primary care practitioners.
This third WHO Post COVID-19 Condition webinar on rehabilitation care, in addition to presenting the WHO clinical case definition and the development of a Core Outcome Set for Post COVID-19 Condition, will have 3 sections:
1. Introduction to rehabilitation for Post COVID-19 Condition
2. Interventions for rehabilitation
3. Models of rehabilitation care
