Walter Swardfager KITE

My research focuses on neurovascular contributions to later life cognitive decline and dementia. As a Clinical Pharmacologist, I have a particular interest in type 2 diabetes as a population in which to explore biomarkers, vulnerability factors and potential new treatments. The lab integrates techniques across neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, neuropsychology, biostatistics and genomics. Some ongoing projects include:

  • Neuroendocrine and metabolic disruptions in mood and cognitive complications of type 2 diabetes
  • Genomic vulnerability to cerebral small vessel disease
  • Pharmaconeuroepidemiology
