Abstract

Objectives: 1. Describe a novel assessment that can be used to evaluate reactive stepping ability 2. Discuss the use of Perturbation-based Balance Training as a method to improve reactive stepping 3. Summarize a comprehensive and individualized approach for assessing and training reactive balance for individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury or disease

Biography

Janelle Unger is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Therapy at Western University. She completed her PhD at the University of Toronto in Rehabilitation Sciences, conducting a clinical trial at the Lyndhurst Centre, KITE - University Health Network. Janelle was also a physical therapist at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute for three years, working with a variety of patient populations. Her research focuses on improving rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injury or disease and evaluating the effects of disability across the lifespan.
